The kenyan collection

The kenyan collection

Are Brazilian dog collars the same as African dog collars?

Both Africa and Brazil are known for their beaded dog collars. The Kenyan collection are dog collars made in Africa and Sambboho dog collars are made in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The Kenyan collection dog collars are made by the Maasai people in Kenya while Sambboho dog collars are made by a community of artisans in the region of Araxa, which is located on the other side of the globe in Brazil.

Brazil’s essence is closely tied to Africa due to its history and is reflected in Brazilian culture from food to dance and fashion.

Although both Sambboho and The Kenyan collection used vibrant colorful patterns, Sambboho designs are more western looking due to the influence of native american culture since the people of Araxa are a mix of descendants from African slaves, Portuguese colons and indigenous tribes that lived in the area before European contact.

Sambboho dog collars are beaded using an ancestral tear beading tradition which doesn’t require glue to attach the beadwork to the leather.

Sambboho collars only use full grain leather made of one leather piece treated with organic beeswax for water resistance. The collars are made with Slovakian glass beads which are not painted, meaning they will not fade overtime.
