Find the perfect fit—by breed, fur type, and lifestyle.

Choosing the right collar isn’t just about looks—it’s about comfort, safety, and function. At Sambboho, we offer both flat beaded collars and  rolled leather collars, each handcrafted for durability and beauty. But which one is best for your dog?

Let’s break it down by breed, coat type, and how you use the collar day-to-day.

Flat Beaded Collars: Great for Most Breeds

Best for:

Why it works:
Our flat collars are the go-to style for most breeds. They sit comfortably around the neck without causing matting or breakage, even in dogs with soft or feathered coats. They’re perfect for leash walks, daily wear, and showing off your dog’s unique style.

“I use the flat Sambboho collar for walks, training, and even beach days. It's never caused issues with my Aussie’s coat.” – Carol G, Sambboho customer

Rolled Leather Collars: A Gentle Option for Long Fur

Best for:

  • Poodles

  • Afghan Hounds

  • Collies

  • Shelties

  • Doodles

  • Long-haired small breeds

Why it works:
Rolled collars are often recommended for dogs with longer, silky fur that’s prone to breakage or matting. The rounded design puts less pressure on individual hairs and minimizes tangles. However, these collars are more aesthetic than functional—they’re not recommended for leash use, especially with large or strong dogs.

How to Choose the Right Size

Measure your dog’s neck snugly, and then add about 1"–1.5" for breathing room:

Each dog collar features three adjustment holes, allowing for a flexible fit. For example, a collar listed as 14–16” will fit necks measuring 14”, 15”, or 16”. If your dog’s neck size falls at the upper end of the range, we recommend sizing up for comfort. So, if your dog’s neck measures 15”, the 14–16” collar is ideal. But if it measures 16”, we suggest going with the 16–18” size to ensure a better fit.

Lifestyle Considerations

  • Adventure dogs: Go with a flat collar that’s water-resistant and leash-compatible (like our standard Sambboho collar with beeswax protection).

  • Stylish loungers or indoor pups: Rolled collars are a beautiful, lightweight choice.

  • Active pullers or leash training: Stick with our flat collars—they’re built to handle daily use. We even recommend our martingales in this case.

Style Meets Practicality

No matter the breed, every Sambboho collar is:

  • Handmade in Brazil

  • Crafted from full-grain leather

  • Water-resistant (thanks to beeswax)

  • Reinforced for durability

  • Gorgeous with artisanal beadwork

  • Covered by a 1 year warranty
